Here is What Your Child is up to for the month of September:
Third Grade- Third Graders are learning all about French artist Henri Matisse. Matisse used bright bold colors in his work. We heard the story When Pigasso Met Mootisse by Nina Laden. This is a fun animated story about the work of Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Your children and I discussed the difference between realistic art and abstract art or cubist art. We talked about the difference between the two artists. We are feeling inspired from "The Goldfish" painting by Henri Matisse. We are drawing together and will be learning how to blend colors with acrylic paint . This will be the artwork that will be send to the company Art To Remember; our art fundraiser.
Fourth Grade- Fourth Graders are learning about the life and artistic style of French Artist Claude Monet. Monet was an impressionistic painter and was interested in capturing a moment in time. He lived in a pink house in Giverney France. Monet had a Japanese foot bridge in his back yard. He painted his water lily pond over and over . We watched a cartoon about Monet. We are feeling inspired by his series of water lily paintings. We will be learning how to blend colors with paint. This will be the artwork we send to the company Art To Remember; our art fundraiser.
Fifth Grade- Fifth Graders are learning all about the life and artistic style of Vincent VanGogh. We listened and watched a video of VanGoghs artwork. We discussed as a group how tragic VanGoghs life was. VanGogh cut off part of his ear and shot himself. Your fifth graders understood that VanGogh was mentally ill and was very troubled. We talked about how I wanted them to know this; as it is a part of Art history but I really want them to remember his incredible Art work and how he only sold one painting in his entire life. Fifth graders will have the opportunity to paint whatever they wish in a VanGogh style. We will paint using short choppy strokes. This will be the artwork we send to the company Art To Remember; our art fundraiser.
